We are blessed to live in a country setting that is not too far from the Gulf of Mexico, so we get the best of two worlds for bird watching. I have only recently started pursuing this as an active hobby so I have not traveled around much for sighting birds, but I love being a window watcher.

Here is a picture of one of my favorite birds near the house, a male Eastern towee

In over 40 years of living I had never seen a bobwhite until we moved here to the country. It has always been one of my very favorite birds to hear so I am thrilled that we have two pair that come to the yard to feed at times. This is the male. Have any of you ever heard the poem my grandmother taught me when I was a little girl? It goes: BobWhite are your pea's ripe? Not quite. Will your dog bite? Only in the night.

This osprey, pictured below, and her mate had built their nest  very close to where my mom and dad are buried. Seeing them this close was so awesome!

This next picture is the last of a series of picture I got one of the first days I was playing with my new camera. My hubby and I rode down by the beach to an area we call the point. It has a boat launch and area to park. When we first got there I noticed this blue heron walking around, at the water's edge of one of the boat launches. As we got closer I saw he was actually more or less 'lording' over or gloating over another heron he had apparenty pecked down. At first I wasn't sure it was alive but when the gloating one left the hurt one got up and moved under the small pier. The other one came back and wasn't happy. He walked up and down the other pier, then got on top of the pier the hurt one was under. This picture is taken at that point when he made aggressive sounds toward the hurt one. Then he got in the water and was going under after the hurt one but my hubby got out and headed to the pier and the heron decided to fly off. I hope that was the end of it, but we had to leave so I don't know for sure. I never realized till then how aggressive a blue heron could be.

That is all the pics I am putting on here for now but do check back. I will probably be updating this as I continue to play with my camera and find interesting bird shots.

January 1, 2006

I said I would be updating, it just took awhile. The picture below I took just a couple of days ago. I was really glad the Lord let me get the camera and get it before the bird flew away. I need your help to identify this bird. I have looked through 2 of my bird books and I just can't seem to find it. I am probably misinterpreting what I see but if you know what kind of bird this is, please let me know by posting the answer in my guest book or on the forum. I sure would appreciate it.

Feb.3, 2006 We have had sucess. Thanks to a lady who came and checked it out we now know that this is a female painted bunting. Now I am hoping her mate will come and soon I will be able to add his picture.

Bird Eye View

Do you know what a birdwatcher and God have in common?

They both have their eye on the sparrow.

Would it surprise you to know that isn't actually the way the Bible verse phrases it. What the Bible tells us is even better. It says in Luke 12:6-7, "Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows." In Matthew's telling of what Jesus says he includes this part also, Matthew 10:29, "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father." Notice that last part -"without your Father"  Isn't that awesome? God is there when a sparrow dies, how much more He will be there for His children through whatever problems come into their lives.

That is for His children. Understand everybody isn't God's child. Only when a person has been born again into His family do they become God's child.  The good news is God loves you and has made a way for you to become His child. How? John 1:12, talking about Jesus says, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"  We see just how much God does love us in John 3:16-18, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." You see according to verse 18 all who haven't believed on Jesus are already condemned, and God doesn't want us condemned so in love Jesus died on the cross for us, shed His blood to cleanse our sin, and arose from the dead the 3rd day. It isn't enough to just believe historically that He lived and did that for the world you must make it personal. You must realize He cares for you, You are a sinner unable to save yourself and that Jesus died for you, for your sins. If you do that and trust Him alone for salvation you will know how much He cares for you!(click on the test results page in the menu at the top of the page to get more info on becoming God's child -don't delay. God cares about you and wants you to be His child today.)

Child of God, know God cares about everything in your life. Nothing is too small to talk to Him about. Whether you are facing an algebra test or cancer God will help you through it. 1 Peter 5:6-7, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
